Today my friend Gwynne got us tickets from the local library for a "talk" with Chris Cox on learning how to write and draw your own story. I thought this was a great opportunity to get some info that will help me on making my own webcomic.
The session lasted for 2 hours and it was Chris, an illustrator and animator, teaching us how to create clear storyboards and different techniques that we can use to make it interesting. We learnt different ways to introduce a character, different shots and what effect they can give, how to use facial expressions and how to create symbols in our stories.
It was a really interesting experience, and with only 7 of us there for the talk it was personal too. A man there who must have been in his 20s told us he didn't like the muppets - and he didn't like squirrels either. needless to say we were very disappointed! You have to keep your inner child alive! There was another quiet woman who created in depth storyboards and very well drawn to, it was interesting to see another hobbyist artist at work. I did feel a bit embarrassed when everyone had created more realistic stories and I had drawn a Mafia giraffe in a car chase...
I think I will go to more talks and sessions from now on because it was really good to work with other artists and pick up new things.. (it would probably do me some good to improve on my social skills too!)
